Frequently Asked Questions
What services do you offer? We provide specialised podiatry services focused on mountain sports, including skiing, snowboarding, trail running, mountain biking and cycling. Services include biomechanical assessment, diagnosis and treatment of foot and lower limb injuries, dry needling, custom orthotic design and fitting, footwear and equipment advice, and optimisation of the interaction between your foot and your sport-specific equipment.
Should I bring my boots/shoes to the appointment?Yes. Please bring your ski or snowboard boots/bike cleats or flats/trail runners or hiking boots to the appointment.
Can you help if I’m not currently injured but want to improve performance?Yes. Many people visit us to improve comfort, efficiency and performance. By assessing your biomechanics and how your foot interacts with your footwear or equipment, we can help optimise your movement for mountain sports.
Do you sell ski boots? We do not sell retail ski boots or keep them in stock.
For people with significant or complex foot issues, we can design and build custom ski boots and liners. This process is highly specialised and typically requires multiple appointments to assess the foot, develop the boot and fine-tune the fit for comfort and performance.
Do you sell custom boot liners? For skiers and snowboarders who want optimal performance and fit, a custom liner is essential. Sentinel can provide custom liners. This process is highly specialised and typically requires multiple appointments to assess the foot, fit the liner, and fine-tune the fit for comfort and performance.
How long does it take to get a pair of custom orthotics? We can assess your biomechanics, create a plan, and make your custom orthotics within a one hour appointment. We make all our custom orthotics on-site.
Do you cut toe nails?Unfortunately our clinic is not set up for regular nail care. For those with an acute ingrown toe nail or pain, we can do a one-off treatment to assist you.
But our specialty lies in biomechanics and sports podiatry.
Do I need a referral? No, you do not need a referral, you can just book in online.
If you have an EPC referral, we can be part of your care management for your chronic podiatry issue if it is musculoskeletal-related (not for ongoing nail care).
Are you registered with DVA to provide care? Not at the moment, but we are in the process of being registered soon.
Are you an NDIS provider? No, we are not. There is already an NDIS podiatry provider in Mount Beauty who can help you.
Do you bulk bill?Sentinel is a private podiatry clinic and does not offer bulk billing. Payment is required at the time of your appointment. If you have private health insurance with podiatry cover, you may be able to claim a rebate depending on your level of cover.
Do you treat children?Yes. We treat children and adolescents. Assessments focus on foot development, biomechanics and addressing issues that may affect comfort, performance or injury risk as young athletes grow, as well as helping manage and treat acute or chronic injuries associated with sport or development. Children 15 and under have a discounted rate.
How much do you charge? Please see our pricing schedule for current service charges.
Do you sell trail shoes or hiking boots? No — we don’t retail shoes. Instead, we assess your biomechanics and recommend trail shoes or hiking boots that best suit your feet, movement patterns and the terrain you run on.
